Beginner/ Intermediate
Wednesday evenings, 6pm to 9pm
Suited for the absolute beginner, as well as learners with some experience with the language, the Beginner/Intermediate course is currently taught on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm by Laura Stirling in her home,11B Dakin Drive, Rockingham. This course is designed for those who are beginning to learn Gaelic or who already have some competence in the language. The focus will be on learning to speak and understand basic conversational Gaelic through a relaxed, communicative approach that utilizes props, activities, stories and games. Classes are conducted completely in Gaelic. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record classes for review at home or to visit our website to download class recordings.
$100 for 10 classes starting September 22, 2010
Intermediate/Advanced
Monday evenings, 6pm to 9pm
Designed to engage learners with a variety of competency levels, the Intermediate/Advanced course will take place on Monday evenings from 6pm to 9pm with Shay MacMullin instructing class at Nova Scotia Community College, Waterfront Campus Room 5214. The focus will be on learning to speak and understand more complex, idiomatic Gaelic through a relaxed, communicative approach that utilizes props, activities, stories and games. Classes are conducted completely in Gaelic. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record classes for review at home or to visit our website to download class recordings.

Advanced Gaelic
Monday evenings, 6pm to 9pm
Open to learners with significant skill already acquired in the language or those who are already conversational in Gaelic, the Advanced course is conducted entirely through the medium of Gaelic. The goal is learning speak more natural Gaelic through a relaxed, communicative approach that may utilize stories, poetry and informative texts as well as audio and visual materials. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record classes for review at home. Throughout this course comprehension, rhythm and speed of speech, accent--"blas", and pronunciation will comprise the focus of the course. Materials used will reflect a Gaelic world-view, incorporating a strong cultural element in the course. As well, a strong conversational element will be provided to the class, which will help to continue to strengthen the listening and speaking skills of participants. Joe Murphy will be instructing this class at Nova Scotia Community College, Waterfront Campus Room 5214.
$150 for 10 classes starting September 20, 2010
Song Workshop
Tuesday evenings, 6pm to 9pm
Gaelic song is a beautfiul, rich part of our Gaelic culture here in Nova Scotia. We welcome you to come learn and share is this aspect of our oral tradition. Experience in Gaelic or song is NOT required. The workshops will be lead by Padraig Bennett in his home at 45 Vimy Avenue, Halifax Apartment 417. Visitor parking is located to your left beside the stone wall as you enter the parking lot. This is sure to lots of fun and enriching for all from absolute beginner to fluent speaker.
This series will run as a trial project for 4 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. The first session will be September 21, 2010. Registration is required by email as spaces are limited.
Saturday Workshops
Two Saturdays each month, 9am to 3pm
Open to learners at all levels, Saturday classes are taught from 9am to 3pm, with a lunch break for all participants. Course fees includes class fees and strùpagan (tea breaks). Please bring your sack lunch with you to share a meal together in Gaelic conversation. Locations and instructors vary for Saturday classes. Please contact Sgoil Ghˆidhlig for more information regarding the Saturday workshops, or join our email list to get regular updates on Saturday workshop times and locations.

Call for Interest: Daytime Workshops Through the Week
We would like to extend a call for interest in daytime workshops either regularly each week on a particular day OR on an occasional basis, perhaps once per month on a weekday. The format could follow that of a Saturday workshop, or could run for a few hours. If this would be something that would interest you, please respond with your preferences. If the demand is there, we'll go forward with a plan.
